Health Update January 2018

As you all know the flu season is horrible this year.  There have been many schools in the state of Texas that have had to close down for a time period.  We are doing everything we can at school to keep your kids healthy.  Our amazing custodians are using our germ blasting machines to disinfect every room on every campus at least once a week and more as needed.  Please join us in making every effort to keep our kids as healthy as possible by recognizing signs early and keeping them home until they are symptom free for 24 hours without any Tylenol or Ibuprofen.

Signs and Symptoms of the Flu

  • Sudden onset.
  • Fever or chills.
  • Cough, sore throat.
  • Runny or stuffy nose.
  • Muscle or body aches.
  • Headache.
  • Severe fatigue.

Remember that antiviral medications need to be started within 48 hours of the onset of symptoms in order to be effective.  Vaccination is the number one way to prevent the spread of the flu and prevent our medically fragile population from contracting this virus.  The next best way to protect yourself and others is good and frequent hand washing.  At school the teachers are great about encouraging and reminding the kids to wash their hands frequently.  We also teach them to cough and sneeze into their arm if they do not have a tissue, as the flu is spread by airborne droplets which can be inhaled by those around them but can also be contracted from surfaces where the droplets have been landed.  Please, emphasize to your children the importance of washing their hands before they eat or touch their face.  Thank you for helping us with this matter.

Sincerely,
